It's that time of year, when our minds start day dreaming about the beach, a new bikini and vacations ... a time for sand between your toes and the sun shine to brighten your day. I love summer, but the one thing I can't stand is hot shoes on my feet. Of course a girl needs fashion though, and that is what I love about wearing barefoot sandals. They make me feel like a pretty fairy, dancing around in my jeweled feet.
Everyone should feel the joy of having beautiful feet! That is why I am giving each of you, the opportunity for a chance to win your own pair of hemp barefoot sandals! :)

Ashley from Tootyfruitymonkeyluv is giving away this fabulous pink glittery hippie style headband to one lucky winner!
But First I want you to meet the artist behind the shop! Please enjoy my interview with Ashley, after which, you will find out how you can enter to win your very own hair piece from Tootyfruitymonkeyluv!
Please tell us a little about yourself and your shop...
Well, my name is Ashley Kolodzek – I am from the Minneapolis/St. Paul,
MN area. My husband is an amazing Chef at a local restaurant; I have a
wonderful 13 year old step-son Evan, a 7 year old daughter Zoe and 3
year old daughter London. I am also expecting girl around June 23rd :)!
We are a crazy busy household and we love it!
My shop is named after my little divas… Zoe is and will always be Tooty
Fruity due to her love for that cereal when she was younger (she is
totally embarrassed about it now!) and our three year old London, is and
will always act like a little Monkey. I guess girl number 3 will need
to be Luv!
My shop started with my mother borrowing me her hot glue gun (which I
was fairly nervous to use – I am very accident prone – or a
hypochondriac - either way lol). I wanted to make these cute paper
flower hair clips for my girls (probably saw it somewhere!). I made
them and everyone thought they were so adorable so I considered selling
them. Well, I brought them to a local restaurant to show my mother and I
gained interest with the restaurant manager and servers . That is
when I decided to start my own little shop. I have always been creative
(crafting, photography, art…) so why not share it with the world?? My
long term goal is to incorporate graphic design and my digital
photography services as well (once I graduate!).
Where does your inspiration come from?
Pretty much everything! Of course, my little girls, but I am also
inspired by fashion (was always a tomboy, but over the years I have
become pretty addicted to fashion), photography, colors in nature, music
– anything! I am a very visual person, so honestly it doesn’t take me
long to get inspired by something. I find myself constantly looking
online at celebrity fashion (they tend to take more risks), vintage or
pin-up style photos, other Etsians or just awesome blogs and wanting to
learn and create more! I am very jealous of those who can sew beyond
just the basics… maybe next year lol.
Tell us about your favorite piece that you've created? you can show us a pic if you want...
Hmmm – this is hard. I have bridal hair accessories which I am lovin’
right now – they are so fun and special to me and I typically use a
vintage embellishment that I have found in a local antique store. The
children’s line is super fun too because you can use bright colors,
feathers, tulle, butterflies and fun jewels. I guess my favorite pieces
are my hippie headbands. They are super popular right now and are a
hit locally and online! I love this vintage button hippie headband – I have made maybe four or five of them, but
they are all a little different due to the center and flower request.
Besides Etsy, where can your customers find your unique designs?
Right now, they are just shown on Etsy, Facebook and Twitter. My plan
is to work on my website during my “maternity leave” which will be
around June 23rdish to beginning or mid July. I am really picky and
haven’t found a web hosting site that allows me to be creative yet
provide ease of use for customers. I want people to feel my website is
easy to purchase from and allows them to view my current creations for
sale. I am also going to be partnering with another awesome local
designer/owner (organic children’s line) – more details coming soon
(found out today)!
Do you think you work more hours at home, than you would in a regular job outside the home?
I 100% feel and know I put many many (many!) more hours than I ever have
into my business. And I LOVE IT! I love being my own boss and feel
that I actually put more goals and processes into place when being my
own boss. I am very hard on myself, but I take my work very seriously.
I want durable, quality products and the pressure is on because it is
my name, and only my name, behind the work. I like that kind of
responsibility; it makes me a stronger business woman and person. If
you love what you do, it makes a HUGE difference! I feel I am finally
starting to do what I have wanted to do since I was maybe 15 or 16 years
old!
Other than creating amazing items for your shop, what else do you like to do in your free time?
HAHAHAH – FREE TIME!?!?! Just kidding – I feel that I love what I am
doing so much at this time, that my free time is used to better my
business or create new hair accessories or take photographs for my
portfolio or work on my degree. These are all things that I would be
doing for “fun” anyways, but now I can make a few bucks doing it.
I am not a big park person (yes, I know – three kids – you need to be a
park person), but I love walking around a lake, fishing, having the kids
play in the sprinkler in the back, watching movies or just sitting on
the deck with a glass of wine. That is fun to me! I still like to go
out once and a while (when I get that terrible itch!), but find relaxing
at home with my family is much more fun and rewarding. The past few
years I was nervous about getting close to 30, but now with my exciting
new business , college degree plan and 4 amazing children (and hubby) I
think they will be the best years so far! I have a plan in place – now
it is just about implementing, managing and having fun!
Thank you for the lovely interview Ashley! :)

Now I want you to have the opportunity to read a little about the artist behind the amazing designs! At the end of the interview, you will find the rules about entering the give away!
Please tell us a little about yourself and your shop...
My name is Starla and I have loved creating as far back as I can remember. As a child, I could always be found covered in glue, paint, marker, or all of the above. I was often too curious for my own good. That curiosity has never left me. I still love exploring new materials and testing boundaries. I believe as an artist, you should always keep the "awe" in everything you see. Just like the Renaissance man, I too love discovering our world through a variety of avenues, and I love seeing beauty in minute details that are often overlooked.
I've been on Etsy for 6 weeks which keeps me busy online. Offline, life is never dull around my house with a teenage son that believes he knows more than me, a toddler daughter that probably does, a dog the size of a bear, a turtle as old as dirt, and a best friend whom I’m fortunate to call my husband.
I have a BFA and was an advertising creative director before going back to freelance. I'm self taught on the mac including Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, as well as, jewelry making and polymer clay sculpture. I'm the volunteer Art Leader for our 4-H group. So, far I've taught the kids drawing, jewelry and polymer clay. Three of my students placed at the Texas State Fair last year.
My shop's art is my outward expression of every internal struggle, triumph and emotion. I've often referred to myself as ARTADD, as I cannot stick to one medium when it comes to my shop. To be happy to my very soul, I have to explore. Mixed media abstracts one day, beading art the next and dragon paintings the third... as the quote goes "variety is the spice of life." The art in my shop is eclectic, just like me.
Where does your inspiration come from?
My inspiration comes from life. Every tactile, tangible and not-so-tangible element that makes life, life. It could be my daughter's expression at trying something new, the way the wind catches long hair, the detailed pattern of an insect wing, or the stories I've shared with my kids. Life is inspiration.
Tell us about your favorite piece of art that you've created? you can show us a pic if you want...
My favorite piece has to be a polymer clay sculpture I made last year of my daughter. It placed first place at the State Fair of Texas where I received two offers to purchase it. It is the one piece of my art that I could never sell.

Besides Etsy, where can your customers find your unique designs?
My fine art can only be purchased on Etsy, unless you live next door. :-) However as of a few days ago, I have a facebook page! My link is www.facebook.com/pages/Starfly-Creations-by-Starla-Apodaca/132221226856439 . Please come check me out. I have a fan base of 17 so far, but I appreciate every one of them!
Other than creating amazing items for your shop, what else do you like to do in your free time?
Like most moms, I have many roles besides artist. Playmate, Teacher, Correction Officer, Doctor, Mom, Wife and Friend. Free time? LOL! When I do have a rare moment of self-indulgent seclusion and I'm not working on art, I love to read, walk, go to the movies or hike in the woods.

Blog Feature: The Talented Artist, Christy from Dragonpop
The other day, I was playing in a fun BNR and I ordered this fabulous ring from Christy of the Etsy shop Dragonpop. Christy's shop is full of unique items that always catch my eye! I had a hard time making my selection because I wanted so many different rings. I really love her Poppyrock rings and the Dragon cameo rings, but I chose the dragonfly bubble ring. Something about the blue and the dragon fly really caught my attention.
When I got the ring a couple of days later, I was very pleased with my decision, it is beautiful. It was delivered in a cute little package and she even included an extra surprise. I also received an eyeglass case and a tissue holder. These are perfect for my purse. I was impressed by how well made they are. The quality of materials used to construct these items is fabulous, I buy fabric all the time, and the fabric Christy uses to construct her cases is not cheap. I was so impressed with my purchase, I wanted to find out more about this talented artist behind these beautiful items. So I had the pleasure of asking her a few questions and I would like to share them with you. Please enjoy our interview.
Christy Angelicchio fom Dragonpop
Please tell us a little about yourself and your shop...
I'm a work-at-home mom. I've always loved art and anything crafty. I was always going from one project to another in my home, mostly trying to renew worn out items to breathe new life into them. Family and friends were always telling me how much they liked my work and how I should sell it. So here I am :)
Where does your inspiration come from?
Family and friends for sure. I imagine the things a specific person likes and I try to picture the one thing I could create that would leave them speechless :) Of course my likes and dislikes inspire me as well. That's when it gets tricky. When I make something where I'M the inspiration it's that much harder to list it and sell it!
Tell us about your favorite piece of jewelry that you've created? you can show us a pic if you want...
That's tough. My jewelry more often than not is inspired by what I like so I love all of it. I'm very proud of the pieces I've done with a steampunk feel to them. But I'd have to say my dragons are my fav's. I become pretty attached to them which is why I name them. I think Wild Candy would have to be my most favorite so far.

Besides Etsy, where can your customers find your unique designs?
I am currently only available through my Etsy shop. Though I do have inquiries in with some local boutiques to start marketing in their shops. I'll keep everyone posted when new avenues open up!
Other than creating amazing items for your shop, what else do you like to do in your free time?
Love to read. I'm going through a bit of a Paranormal Romance phase :) Laurell K. Hamilton is on my MUST READ list. Though I like all genres. I read everything from Diana Gabaldon to Caleb Carr. I also garden when weather permits. I'm gearing up for summer. I already have my seedlings well on their way!
